junA son of a former Almaty Mayor Viktor Khrapunov, Ilyas Khrapunov, and his wife Madina Khrapunova, a daughter of the former BTA Bank’s chairman Mukhtar Ablyazov, turned out to be on the diplomatic list of the permanent UN diplomatic mission in one of the African countries.

In December 2016 Mukhtar Ablyazov’s extradition was refused, he was released from prison and granted a political refugee status in September 2020. Earlier, a number of his relatives and associates had been given international protection in various European countries. Thus, continuing to campaign for human rights in Kazakhstan and the rights of political refugees amongst them, we consider our mission largely fulfilled.
